The organic debate is still raging. I find it increasing difficult to keep my temper when trying to explain that the price of an organic chicken cost what it does because of the feed, straw and the fantastic welfare that people expect from us, not because I am making a fortune (if only). I think customers are clever enough to work it out and will buy on ethics and quality, but I just can't get through to Mr Big. No profit on 10 chickens is equal to No profit on 10,000, just loads more unpaid work for all us at the sharp end.
I'm just going to think about my egg boxes and not answer the phone!!

I wouldn't touch anything but a free range chicken, but I can't afford organic. I keep hens myself, and don't feed them organic feed, but the eggs are way better than anything I could find in the shops

I find the organic food thing is a bit of a blackmail. Farmers saying basically, if you don't pay us more, we will poison you or mistreat the animals, and its all your fault. I don't like that.
So I am supposed to suspend the laws of supply and demand and shell out extra so some person can live his country idyll dream? Not likely. I have worked on farms. The farmers get all the money (and whinge and whine all the way to the bank) and do quite well, while the labourers get paid f*** all. If farms were as unprofitable as farmers claim, farm land (which can't be built on or used for anything else, would be a darned sight cheaper than it actually is.

don't shout at me..I don't get organic food as i am not convinced by it..i do however care about the welfare of the livestock there fore i would pay a bit extra for free range eggs etc. most of my friends think that Organic food is for snobs..(I said don't shout
).well that is how it is perceived by many and when you see some of the produce next to ordinary stuff it looks pale in comparison. i do admire what you do and i will re-visit the organic section and have a other think
